Life After Campus

Mr. Simplisio Ariho

I remember when I reported at Uganda Technology and Management University (UTAMU) in August 2013, it was a profound and astonishing moment for me.  It was my dream to be at university but I realized that campus has its own setting and needs determined and focused people to meet goals and objectives of life.

I found out that at University everyone has his or her own agenda. It’s about the holder to control it either in a negative or positive side. I was so engaged in different activities because I wanted to get exposure and connections from professors, lecturers and other important stakeholders of the institution.  Life can be sweet at university when you’re getting various calls from parents, friends and relatives showing interest to offer some help which in the long run is not enough and you divert the daily meal for most campusers called (kikomando) commonly known as “chicken/enkoko”. I had never thought about it in that angle. It was an interesting moment of surprises at campus but above all patience, discipline, determination and prayer can make you succeed.

Here comes what we call life after campus where everything seems to be impossible. It was in September 2016 when I graduated.  I expected life to be the same but it was all in vain. The calls I used to receive offering me some help disappeared.  The first responsibility which slapped my face was to pay rent for 3 months which I wasn’t used to. After a while, I started receiving calls from nephews and relatives requesting for help, money etc. It was very hard to explain to someone that there is no money yet I was the first to graduate in the family.  Life after campus commonly known   as “the world” is not easy but possible to manage with a positive mindset and passion. Through this experience, I learnt not to be desperate in life especially in tough times.

Together with my friends, we managed to register a company called Info-Code (U) Limited (www.infocodeug.com) which is rooted on four poles ICT, Finance, Innovation and Big Data.
