This department will specialize in business, law and accounting areas and it is anticipated to grow into a school of business, Law and Accounting. It offers high quality, challenging business; supply chain, law and accounting courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels which are intended to provide skills and competencies for a globally oriented student and practitioner. The following courses fall under this department:
Bachelors Programmes

Bachelor of Arts in Economics (BA Econ)

With globalization and given the current economic woes the world over, a critical mass of highly qualified economists is essential for any nation’s development.

The Bachelor of Arts in Economics programme therefore is designed to develop a highly skilled human resource in the general area of economics. Specifically, it is intended to produce graduates with knowledge and problem solving skills to study and develop solutions for local and regional economic problems. It offers a unique approach to the study of economics that creates a blend of economics and human behavioral approaches.

Bachelor of Science in Economics

The Bachelor of Science in Economics programme is designed for students who want to pursue a career as Economists in academia, industry, finance or government. It equips students with analytical skills to tackle the complexities of the modern world through economic analysis, modeling, monitoring and planning for both public and private organizations. They will also deal with logical analysis of social and individual decision making. Career options to graduates include; Accountants, Tax Advisers, Actuarial Work, Insurance and Trading, etc. Entry options include; UACE, relevant diploma or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Certificate from a recognized institution with at least one principal pass in Economics and two subsidiary passes at the same sitting in UACE and at least one subsidiary pass in Mathematics in UACE.

Bachelor of Science in Statistics

The B.Sc Statistics is designed to equip students with skills to collect, analyze and make deductions from statistical data so as to inform organizations and government of the actual trend to base on when making decisions or policies. The course provides a rich blend of competencies required by a 21st century statistians like mathematics, computing, economics, accounting, research and communication. Graduates of this programme acquire skills in handling specific aspects of statistics like demography, actuarial studies, insurance analytics, business and economic trends.

Bachelor of Procurement and Supply Chain Management (BPSCM)

This program prepares students to tackle business problems in the global market place and understand the complex world of logistics, supply chain and procurement industries within a continuously globalised and changing environment.

Bachelor of Procurement and Supply Chain Management has been blended with technology and management and graduates of this programme will be able to get exemptions once they enrol for professional courses in procurement and supplies like the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (UK).

Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)

The Bachelor of Business Administration programme is a unique blend of different disciplines from which a student can select one of four specialized options including; Finance and Accounting, Entrepreneurship and Business Promotion, Public/Social Sector Management and Human Resources and Organisational Development.

The resulting graduate has a general feel of all the options and specialization in one particular option. Career options for this kind of graduate are thus diverse spanning from Business Managers, Bankers, to Human Resource Managers and Entrepreneurs. Entry options include; UACE, relevant diploma and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Certificate from a recognized institution with at least one principal pass and two subsidiary passes at the same sitting in UACE. Details about the admission requirements under each option are given in the appendix attached.

Bachelor of Arts in Development Economics

This programme focuses on training the world’s development economic decision makers and managers of the future. It provides broad intellectual training in foundations of knowledge of how the economy works and offers relevant skills for the constructive use of that knowledge. It is designed to generate a body of human resource equipped with skills to identify, analyse, formulate, implement, monitor and evaluate development issues affecting society. The course facilitates students with a range of skills to deal with development problems and challenges.

Bachelor of Science in Quantitative Economics (BSc.QE)

This degree course is designed for students who want to acquire knowledge about tools and techniques of Economic variables, how to collect and analyse economic data and apply it to explain social, economic and health dynamics among others. The programme focuses on training the world’s development economic decision makers and managers of the future. This programme provides a thorough training in specific areas of economics, mathematics, statistics and computing and also enhances statistical/economic analytical techniques of personnel in the business and private sector.

Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance (BSc.AF)

The Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance has been developed to train highly skilled and modern Accounting and Finance specialists. The programme, which is the first of its kind in the region, is blended with the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA) and Uganda Institute of Bankers Professional Bankers’ Certificate curricula. This is intended to produce unique, shrewd, analytical and widely knowledgeable graduates who will have the capacity to solve large complex accounting and financial problems and demonstrate a sound understanding of the broader business environment.
