Directorate of ICT & Library Services

The Directorate of ICT and Library Services is a wide-ranging group whose work touches every student, faculty member and employee at Uganda Technology and Management University (UTAMU).

UTAMU being a largely online university, students must have unlimited access to computers and connectivity. The E-Learning System is the gateway to all UTAMU online programs. This system provides an opportunity to all registered students to reach out to their learning resources, collaborate with both staff and fellow colleagues, undertake online assessments and participate in all sort of academic discussions.

The e-Library provides a vast collection of resources that support both student learning and staff research. It also profiles a big collection of open access resources that are free and open to the general public.

ICT Services

The aim of the ICT unit is to advance the use of IT in higher education and also to support essential processes to enable students and staff of UTAMU to explore their full potential. The University entered a memorandum of understanding with service providers to provide laptops and internet connectivity at subsidized rates to all students who register in the university. All registered students therefore are able to access the online content of the academic programmes to which they are enrolled.

UTAMU uses ICT to foster lifelong learning without age restriction and also enable access to persons with disabilities. UTAMU uses a blended learning model that combines face-to-face instruction physically or through video conferencing and this will be combined with online curricula, interactive tools, hands-on activities, and online assessments that will provide immediate feedback to the learner. For the distance learning programs, the distance learning rooms are fitted with ceiling-mounted document cameras and that can receive and project images from any wireless tablet or laptop in the room. An archive of all courses presented using video conference are maintained and provided to all its students.

UTAMU has setup a powerful web-based learning application that offers a cooperative learning environment. The application allows teachers to create effective on-line courses and to manage learning and collaborative activities on the web.

All Data Servers have been outsourced to a competent firm that will ensure data security and availability. This hosting is fully distributed to enable quick access to our elearning resources.

Library Services

UTAMU being a largely online university where students might not be on the university campus most of the time, rather than having hard copy books in the library, the university has set up a fully functional electronic library currently with over 1000 electronic books. Links to open access libraries have been put together and can be accessed through one interface. Students are also automatically subscribed to the library resources of our partner universities. The university has also subscribed to relevant journals to provide access to its students the latest state-of-the- art research articles

Fully registered students may access our library services through this link.

Electronic resources available through the UTAMU e-library are licensed by the university for noncommercial use by UTAMU faculty, staff, students and on-site and off site users, for educational or research purposes only. Additional restrictions may apply to users of certain databases. The terms and conditions of the UTAMU and e-resources provider agreements with the vendors and publishers of these electronic resources regulate the use of these resources.
