Academic Registrar - Embrace the Use of Technology

The Academic Registrar this week advised the newly admitted undergraduate students to embrace the use of technology.

Mr. Mersian Tulyaheebwa, UTAMU Academic Registrar

“At Uganda Technology and Management University (UTAMU), teaching and learning is enhanced by use of technology,” said Mr. Mersian Tulyaheebwa, Academic Registrar.

He made the remarks during the Undergraduate orientation activity held on Wednesday, 10th May 2017 at UTAMU Resource Center in Bugolobi.

UTAMU has a strong practical orientation and all the technology tools to help one succeed in life. Students access all their learning materials on the e-learning platform and practical assignments that apply to their work environments. The e-learning platform is fully equipped and allows a consistent interaction among the students and their teachers.

The e-learning platform is a discussion forum where lecturers post discussion issues and all students are expected to respond. The system monitors when and how long a student is on the e-learning platform.

The Academic Registrar assured the new students to have made the right choice to study at UTAMU saying, “By the end of your three years, you will have gained practical knowledge from the yearly internship.”

“We ensure all our students are engaged in practicing what they have studied through community engagement.” UTAMU academic programmes are structured in such a way that students study eight months a year and proceed on a four-month attachment right from first year. This internship gives them an advantage of a year working experience by the end of their undergraduate programme.

Dr. Doris Kakuru, the Dean School of Business and Management further guaranteed the students of finishing their studies with the qualities, skills and knowledge required to succeed in the employment world.

In the four months of community engagement, students are able to acquire skills to help them in their careers. Also 90 per cent of these students who go on internship are retained by the companies. Through this, UTAMU is addressing society challenges through the university core functions of teaching, research and community outreach.
