UTAMU, UCC Carry Out Feasibility Study of ICT Innovations in Uganda

UTAMU in collaboration with Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) is carrying out a pre-feasibility and feasibility study for ICT Innovations in Uganda.

UCC acquired the services of UTAMU to analyze the current and future demands for the ICT innovations in Uganda.

Speaking to Prof. Jude Lubega, Deputy Vice Chancellor UTAMU and an expert in e-Learning, he said UTAMU will help carry out the research by analyzing the current and future demands for the ICT Innovations in the country.

“UTAMU will carry out research on what it takes to come up with innovations, identify the best innovations in the country, key experts in the innovation arena, the costs incurred by most innovators and challenges faced by the innovators,” says Prof. Lubega.

UTAMU will also study the institutional and legal restrictions that may obstruct or impede operationalization of the ICT Innovation Project and determine the financial costs and benefits of the ICT Innovation Project at the current market prices.

The results from this study will guide the Government of Uganda together with the Uganda Communications Commission come up with strategies on how to support the young innovators in this country.

“Many innovators in Uganda use foreign softwares in developing their mobile applications which is so costly,” says Prof. Lubega, “Therefore the Government through UCC will come up with strategies on how to support Ugandans develop their own softwares.”

At the end of this research, UTAMU will generate a report that will give UCC the current status of innovations in Uganda.
