The UTAMU Administration has stepped up efforts of mentoring students with an aim of supporting their professional and personal growth
The Administration feels this is the only way to enable students to deal with the endless challenges during their years at campus.
“Successful people are inspired by great mentors. Student years at university can be wasted if they do not have people to inspire them and support them to realize their dreams,” Dr. Drake Mirembe, the Dean School of Professional and Vocational Education (SPVE) observed.
The revelation was made during a meeting which was organized for students to share their study challenges with the administration this week.
The academic staff also promised to help students to explore their careers, set goals and develop contacts, identifying opportunities for students. Each academic staff at UTAMU is given students to mentor.
“As mentors, our role is unearth our students’ skills, knowledge and competencies and support them to grow professionally and socially”, Prof. Jude T. Lubega disclosed.
Mentorship involves modeling students’ behavior, providing information, listening to their challenges, probing students to discover the key issues affecting the their success, clarifying, advising, inspiring students , challenging their assumptions and engaging them in a more personal relationship that supports their personal and professional growth.
