Quality Work, Honesty and Timely Delivery Secured Me a Job

The unique mode of teaching employed at UTAMU has made students stand out and be retained at their places of work even before graduation yet there are many graduates who are unemployed on the Ugandan market today.

Goodman Atuhuriire, a Bachelor of Information & Systems Technology student had a chat with the news team on how internship has helped him gain the practical knowledge, professional experience, confidence and self-discipline.

Where did you undertake Community Engagement from?

At the Water & Sanitation Development Facility Central under the Ministry Of Water and Environment.

How was your experience like as student engaging working for the first time?

It was not easy as I had little confidence in myself.

You are working with one of the biggest organizations in Uganda, what skills did you employ to win the favour of your bosses to the extent of retaining you or offering you a job opportunity?

Team work, Honesty, Hard work, Timely delivery.

Why do you think you were retained?

I was availability at any time needed, I presented quality work, and also timely delivery.

Tell us about your current job, position held and what tasks you undertake.

I work as an IT assistant – Software/ Hardware. It’s really amazing. Some of my tasks include; Installing hardware in new water Stations, installation of the Water Billing System onto the Computers Installed above, modification of the Water Billing System functions depending on the user needs and training Staff on how to use the Water Billing System.

Besides the job offer, what other benefits can you site that have come in as a result of community engagement?

Income, Networking, Learning.

Do you think the UTAMU Teaching and learning system is effective in making students job creators?

Yes…… UTAMU’s teaching and learning system being practical has helped me a lot in 95% of the work I do in the field.

Do you think UTAMU is the best institution you could go to ?

Yes. I know no other institution better than UTAMU for sure.

Any advice for students going for or undertaking community engagement 

 

Be honest, friendly (social), committed, time conscious and above all Pray to GOD and everything else will work out itself.
