“UTAMU Is Not An Infant Anymore” - Prof Basheka

“As Management, we are satisfied with the progress so far made as a University. The significant strides and the staff commitment are a manifestation that UTAMU has transitioned from its infancy stage to adulthood and is ultimately progressing towards maturity stage.”

Speaking during the 3rd Graduation Ceremony, Prof. Benon C. Basheka disclosed that the achievements which UTAMU have had in the last five years particularly the current University Ranking, the  growing number of graduates, the research output and areas of specialization all indicate that UTAMU had made significant strides in becoming one of the leading universities in East Africa.

 “We started out with only 22 students and today, the university now boats of over 1800 students. While most students are in-country students, there is a positive trend in attracting regional and international students. UTAMU has been ranked 8th best University out of the 31 Universities in Uganda. The Staff and student publications have increased as evidenced by number of journal articles, book chapters and books published in internationally recognized outlets”.

Basheka also disclosed that the University had made tremendous progress in attracting several local and international partners which have created very critical networks to foster quality education.

He noted that creating innovations were also key and part of student learning techniques. “Our and students are exposed to real life scenarios and required to identify problems within their communities to come up with long lasting solutions”, Basheka.

Prof. Basheka who emphasized that UTAMU’s sole duty is to produce graduates with a changed attitude and behavior towards work and life mentioned that UTAMU had equipped graduands with skills and knowledge to outshine their peers in the dynamic and competitive work environment.

 “For three years now, the University has been sending out graduates to be Computer Scientists, Project Managers, Administrators, Procurement Specialists, Monitoring and Evaluation Specialists, Oil and Gas Governance Specialists, Human Resource Managers, Public Administrators, Etc.

He appealed graduands to in various disciplines to represent UTAMU wherever they go by making the world a better place than it is today.

280 graduands were awarded with Diplomas, Degrees, Postgraduate Diplomas and Master’s Degrees in Business, Management, Computing and Engineering disciplines
