Ms Hellen Judith Icumar is a lecturer in Mass Communication at the Uganda Technology and Management University in addition to carrying out various consultancy engagements. Hellen is also a communications expert with over ten years’ experience of working on development-related initiatives in Uganda. She specialises in the development and implementation of communications and advocacy strategies, awareness-raising methods, knowledge dissemination and public relations, and is experienced in combining communications approaches with cross-cutting issues such as gender and monitoring and evaluation. She has extensive experience of working on donor-funded and private initiatives throughout Uganda.
As Communications and Gender Specialist for the Cooperative League of the United States of America (CLUSA) in Uganda, Ms Icumar developed CLUSA’s communications strategy, oversaw organisational awareness-raising and the dissemination of programme success stories and lessons learned, and ensured that all activities provided inclusive opportunities for women beneficiaries. Whilst working on the agribusiness development component of the DANIDA Agricultural Sector Programme Support initiative in Uganda, she developed and managed the component’s communication strategy; managed the publicity of the programme, including dissemination of success stories and lessons learned; and organised and participated in workshops for stakeholders from the agricultural value chains supported by the programme.
