The PGD in Monitoring & Evaluation is one -year course covering the basic paradigms, principles, concepts, approaches and methods used in M&E. It will cover fundamentals concepts and tools for monitoring and evaluation based on the theory and practices of project management in all sectors. It will adopt a multi-disciplinary approach and orientation throughout the content delivery and assessment. The programme will be of immediate benefit to everyone who is tasked with the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of Projects, programmes and interventions at all levels. The PGD is aimed primarily at management staff currently undertaking Development works or running projects or Working in Projects within their normal roles and responsibilities.

The programme is designed to impart broad theoretical and practical knowledge, skills and competences in project planning, monitoring and evaluation. Specifically, the PGD is intended to:
Impart up-to date knowledge, skills and competencies on evaluating and evaluation of government projects, policies and programmes for efficient delivery of expected results
Produce monitoring and evaluation experts with public management skills and competencies in making critical decisions that affect delivery of public services at all levels of society
Produce graduates who can do evaluation consultancy assignments for development projects and efficiently and effectively evaluate the impact of public policies
Produce monitoring and evaluation policy analysts for government and other actors
By the end of the course, students will be expected to:
Apply relevant monitoring and evaluation theories, principles and paradigms to public service improvement strategies
Design an effective monitoring and evaluation system for complex organizations
Conduct an impact evaluation for government projects to provide satisfactory advise to policy makers and other project stakeholders
Manage evaluation and monitoring consultancy assignments to the satisfaction of clients
Manage development projects, including undertaking social assessment, and advising on their cultural and social impacts
The program is designed for those already in the practice or those who have developed an interest in the application of monitoring and evaluation's critical methods and styles to development project. It is designed for people working in government, non-government organizations, or as independent consultants as well as those who wish to take the discipline as an academic area of specialization. The target audience includes cuts across national and regional levels. Monitoring & Evaluation professionals and advisors involved with the implementation of projects and /or programs at national, regional and local government levels will specifically benefit from attending this programme. The programme will also benefit officers in government, non-governmental organizations, the private sector and all national and sub-national level institutional with interest in M &E matters.
Applicants to the PGD program must possess the following:-
- A Bachelor’s Degree from an institution of higher learning recognized by NCHE in any management or related area of study.
- A professional qualification equivalent to a Bachelors degree from a recognized professional body.
- A postgraduate diploma in project planning and management from a recognized Institution of higher learning may receive some exemptions based on the UTAMU policy.
