Uganda Technology And Management University (UTAMU) is a private University in Uganda founded in 2012 and licensed by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) to do teaching, research and community engagement. JOB DESCRIPTION AND PERSON SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION
Job Title: Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Enterprise
Responsible to: Vice Chancellor
Purpose of the Job
To plan and manage all research, innovation, enterprise and consultancy functions of the University.
Key Functions
The Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Enterprise shall:
- Deputize the Vice Chancellor and be responsible to the Vice Chancellor for:
- Research, publications and scholarships in the University;
- Postgraduate student research in the University;
- Integrating research into teaching and learning processes in the University;
- Promotion and development of innovations and business enterprise in the University;
- Knowledge and technology transfer between the University and the public;
- Partnerships and collaborations across the globe;
- Promotion and development of consultancy services function of the University; and
- Take a lead in grant writing and provide training to staff and students in all aspects of grant proposal writing.
- Perform the functions of the Vice Chancellor (VC) in the absence of the VC and Deputy Vice Chancellor for academic and student affairs.
- Perform such other functions that may be delegated to him/her by the Vice Chancellor.
Minimum Qualifications
- The Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Enterprise shall possess a PhD, or equivalent,
- Must be at the rank of Professor and possess at least six (6) years of managerial experience at least two (2) of which shall be at the level of at least Dean of a Faculty/ School or equivalent in a reputable higher education institution, corporate or public institution.
- He/she shall possess demonstrable experience in winning research grants as well as demonstrable experience in innovation and business enterprise.
- The candidate’s PhD should preferably be from any of the Science and Technology disciplines.
- Having a postgraduate qualification in business/management such as Master’s in Business Administration or an Executive Masters in Business Administration will be an added advantage.
