UTAMU Student Counselling Goes Digital

Universities have counselling centres for students go and share their problems and challenges such as failure to cope up with the course, poor grades, harassment, stress among others.  These centres have counsellors who are usually their lecturers and sometimes trained psychologists.

UTAMU being a technology-driven University, it has decided to take the counselling sessions digital. The University recently embraced the use of a mobile application with a feature that supports counselling of students.

MyGrades SASA - a Student Academic Support Application has a feature called Counsellor (Chat with your consellor).
Students use it to access the services of a counsellor or mentor from anywhere at any time.

“This App also helps students who fear to physically approach their lecturers or counsellors to seek for advice,” says Prof. Jude Lubega, Deputy Vice Chancellor.

“Research shows that the most vocal people use technology specifically social media to express their problems, so why not use technology to make students speak out.” He adds.
