UTAMU Students Innovate To Improve Maternal Health at CAMTech Hackathon

UTAMU students are taking part in the 5th Annual CAMTech UGANDA Medtech Hackathon ongoing at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) in Mbarara district from 25-27 August.

The five students representing UTAMU will spend 48 hours developing innovative medical technologies to improve neonatal and maternal health in resource-limited settings.

More than 250 participants including clinicians, engineers, entrepreneurs, students and designers will spend 48 hours to innovate to improve neonatal and maternal health for patients around the world.

Participants will work around the clock to identify clinical challenges related to newborn and maternal health, form multi-disciplinary teams, prototype solutions and develop business models before presenting their ideas to an expert panel of judges reflecting CAMTech’s crosssector approach to innovation.

Some of the students representing UTAMU are Sadat Anwar, Albert Emurwon and Titus Turinawe.

CAMTech UGANDA will award the 2017 hackathon winners over $2,000 USD ($6,702,400 UGX) in prize money.

Grand Prize: $782 USD ($2,500,800 UGX)

First Runner-Up: $625 USD ($2,000,000 UGX)

Second Runner-Up: $469 USD ($1,500,800 UGX)

Third Runner-Up: $219 USD ($700,800 UGX)
