Master's Students Defend their Research proposals

UTAMU Master's students who are currently undertaking research last week defended their research proposals.

Appearing before a panel of six distinguished scholars, the students presented their research problems, objectives, research designs, literature review and methodology among others.

According to the Dean of the School of Business and Management, Assoc. Prof. Doris Kakuru, the proposal defense offers students a platform to prove the authenticity of their research work and gives an assurance to academicians and the public that the plan of research is complete and credible.

“The purpose of the research proposal is to demonstrate that a student has the ability and maturity to identify a gap or need in society, generate a course of action by following research processes and execute a piece of original research”,  Kakuru  acknowledged.

The panelists included Assoc. Prof. Doris Kakuru, Mr. Mersian Tulyaheebwa (Academic Registrar), Mr. Mark Kiiza, Ms. Judith Kyarisiima, Mr. Omvia Dennis, Dr. Loice Natukunda and Dr. Martha Kibukamusoke among others.

As part of the academic process at UTAMU, students are assigned supervisors with whom they work closely during the entire research process. During proposal defense, the candidate are given only 10 minutes to give a summary of their research work and thereafter, the panel asks several questions and seeks clarification on areas the researcher didn’t provide in-depth information.

Once the proposal has been defended and approved, the candidates are then cleared to collect data and start working on their dissertation.
