Prof. Patrick Job Ogao

Vice Chancellor

Prof. Ogao is the Vice Chancellor of Uganda Technology and Management University (UTAMU). He is a Professor of Geoinformatics/Information Systems. He holds a PhD in Geo-informatics from Utrecht University in The Netherlands; an M.Sc. in Geo-informatics, from University of Twente in The Netherlands; and a B.Sc. in Surveying & Photogrammetry from University of Nairobi in Kenya. He also recently (2023 – 2024) trained in Data Science and Machine Learning at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

He possesses over 20 years of managerial experience in academic institutions in both Europe and Africa. Before joining UTAMU, he worked as a Professor of Geoinformatics in the Faculty of Engineering at the Technical University of Kenya, Nairobi, Kenya; Head of ICT at KCA University; Director, Centre for Faculty Excellence at KCA University; Associate Professor of Information System and Chair of Department of Information Systems in the School of Computing and IT at Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda; Project Manager / Long-term ICT Expert, NUFFIC UGANDA PROJECT – International Office, University of Groningen, The Netherlands; and Postdoctoral Researcher, Scientific Visualization and Computer Graphics Research Group, Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science, University of Groningen, Groningen, The Netherlands.

He is a member of several professional bodies, is a recipient of several awards and honors and has published over 62 refereed journal papers and book chapters. He has supervised to completion more than 5 PhD students and more than 20 masters students. He is an experienced researcher and consultant and he has served as a principal researcher of various research grants. He has also served as an external examiner at various institutions.

He is an all-round academic administrator and manager with immense experience in research, partnerships and collaborations and industrial linkages.
