Welcome to the Directorate of Library and Information Services! This directory works closely with faculties academic departments to ensure that library services respond to the University's teaching and research needs. It ensures equitable access to quality information resources while promoting information literacy, responsible use of information, and lifelong learning.
The directory focuses on the following;
- Improving access to electronic information resources.
- Promoting Open Access scholarly resources.
- Enhancing research support services.
- Building staff capacity through continuous professional development.
- Expanding partnerships for resource sharing.
Research Support Services
The directorate supports researchers by providing;
- Literature search assistance
- Reference management guidance.
- Research visibility
- Guidance on publishing in reputable journals. These services are delivered in collaboration with the Directorate of Research.
Collection Development and Management
The directorate maintains information resources that support the university's teaching, learning and research programs. It continually reviews collections, both electronic and print in consultation with academic departments to ensure their relevance.
Information Literacy
The directorate conducts information literacy programs to equip students and staff with skills for identifying, accessing, evaluating, and ethically using information resources. The training includes library orientation, database searching, academic referencing, and citation management, responsible writing and responsible use of artificial intelligence in academic work.
Knowledge Preservation
The directorate coordinates the collection and preservation of the University's scholarly output through the Institutional repository. Resources preserved may include; Theses and Dissertations, Research publications, Conference papers and Institutional Reports.
Library Systems Management
The directorate manages library technologies that support library operations. These include; Integrated Library Management System, Online Public Access Catalog and Electronic Resources authentication.
The directorate commits to providing services that are efficient and responsive to user needs.
