Boda boda riders are among the most visible service providers in Uganda’s transport sector. Every trip involves direct interaction with a customer, and passengers often choose riders not only because of price or proximity, but also because they feel respected, safe, understood and valued. A rider who communicates well, keeps time, appears professional, handles complaints calmly, behaves ethically and cares for passengers can build trust, repeat business and referrals.
However, boda boda riders have different educational backgrounds. Some have completed formal schooling while others have limited literacy or no formal educational background. For this reason, the programme is designed as an inclusive Certificate in Customer rather than a conventional academic certificate. Learning will emphasise demonstration, oral explanation, pictures, role-play, storytelling and real work situations rather than lengthy reading, writing or examinations.
The central purpose of the programme is to teach riders how to become preferred operators: riders whom customers deliberately call again, recommend to others and trust because of consistent professional service.
Career Prospects
The programme is guided by a simple principle: Every passenger is a customer, and every trip is an opportunity to build a professional reputation. Participants learn by seeing, discussing, practicing and applying customer-service behaviours in their daily work. No participant should be disadvantaged because of limited formal education.
Target Participants

- Members of boda boda associations, SACCOs and cooperatives.

Programme Objectives
To equip boda boda riders and other customer-facing service providers with practical customer-care and service-excellence skills that enable them to provide respectful, reliable, ethical and customer-centred services, enhance customer satisfaction, and improve their professional image and service delivery.
