The Bachelor of Business Administration programme is a unique blend of different disciplines from which a student can select one of four specialized options including; Finance and Accounting, Entrepreneurship and Business Promotion, Public/Social Sector Management and Human Resources and Organisational Development.
Career Prospects
The resulting graduate has a general feel of all the options and specialization in one particular option. Career options for this kind of graduate are thus diverse spanning from Business Managers, Bankers, to Human Resource Managers and Entrepreneurs. Entry options include; UACE, relevant diploma and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Certificate from a recognized institution with at least one principal pass and two subsidiary passes at the same sitting in UACE. Details about the admission requirements under each option are given in the appendix attached.
Programme Objectives
The programme is intended to introduce the students to business administration principles; equip students with relevant knowledge and skills in business operation and management; provide students with knowledge and skills in book-keeping and financial reporting; enable the students generate business ideas that will enable them exploit the available resources for self-reliance. The programme aims at providing participants with knowledge and skills necessary for effective performance in the role of Business Manager. It adopts a generic approach to business administration and is designed for students with interests in business administration projects, business development, community services, trade, tourism and agricultural businesses.
Learning Outcomes
The Degree in Business Administration is aimed at primarily the students who may be direct entrants from A level, holders of Diplomas and professional courses, Management staff who are currently undertaking development works or running business projects or working in businesses within their normal roles and responsibilities.
Upon successful completion of the programme, students are expected to:
- Demonstrate knowledge on how to assess business opportunities and an in-depth understanding of what typically characterize successes and failures.
- Identify key processes necessary to bring new products and services to market and key challenges facing the entrepreneur at different stages of the entrepreneurial voyage.
- Assess the commercial viability of new technologies, business opportunities and existing companies.
- Apply the business knowledge and skills acquired to serve organizations and communities professionally exhibiting remarkable competencies relevant to today’s business world, and of high standard.
- Develop and recommend viable business-management decisions through rightful and suitable connections with political, social, economic, legal, ethical, technological and environmental factors.
- Identify management and organizational problems, isolate critical factors, generate feasible alternatives and, after critical thinking and analysis, come up with the most appropriate and ethical solutions.
- Use acquired technological knowledge and skills to effectively and efficiently manage and administer business entities for desirable results.
Admission Requirements
Students will be admitted to the Bachelor of Business Administration programme through avenues: Direct Entry scheme, Mature Entry scheme, Diploma Entry scheme and Graduate Entry scheme.
Direct/ A level Entry Scheme
For admission under the Direct Entry Scheme, a candidate must have at least two principal passes at the same seating in the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) or its equivalent.
Diploma Holders’ Entry Scheme
One will be admitted to the Bachelor of Business Administration Programme if she/he has at least a 2nd class lower division in Business Administration, Management, IT, Statistics, Development Economics, Library Studies or a related field from a recognized institution.
Mature Age Entry Scheme
For admission under the Mature Age Entry Scheme, a candidate must pass the Mature Age Entry Examinations for the Bachelor of Business Administration/ Commerce Degree or any other nationally recognized entry exam by the National Council for Higher Education. To sit for university mature age the candidate must be at least 25 years old and must have a Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or its equivalent.
Program Duration
The program will extend over a period of three academic years. An academic year shall consist of two semesters and one recess term. A semester shall consist of 15 weeks of lectures. A recess term shall consist of 10 weeks.
