The Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree Programme is designed to equip students with a comprehensive legal education that prepares them for the dynamic demands of the modern world. Students shall gain a strong foundation in substantive law, critical thinking, and practical skills, ensuring readiness for diverse legal careers. At the same time the students shall gain immense knowledge on the interactions between law and AI across many substantive legal topics, including tort law, criminal procedure, employment discrimination, privacy law, due process, and financial regulation, among others. UTAMU is positioned to produce the next generation of lawyers that shall co-exist with Legal Artificial Intelligence (AI) Platforms/AI lawyers.
The general objective is to tutor and convey legal knowledge to the law candidates in terms of research, interpretation and application of the International, Regional and National laws, Legal Drafting and writing, Oral communication through argumentation skills, Moot Court and Legal ethics for lawyers in order to side with the current developments and community demands and as a whole to enable our trainees to accomplish the legal objectives which fit the purposes of the working in law firms, businesses, academia, government agencies as well as the Judiciary, Executive and Legislature as the main arms of the State but also, in Community Based Organizations (CBO’s), Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO’s) at both National, Regional and International sphere.

Programme Objectives
The programme has the following objectives;
- To impart theoretical knowledge and practical skills to students on fundamental principles of law, National and International legal systems and at large cross borders legal practice.
- To develop students’ analytical skills and critical understanding in order to systematically and intellectually deal with contemporary legal issues.
- To endow students with capacity to undertake independent legal studies and relevant practices in order to build their capacity to function in Academia, Diplomatic Relations, Administration of Justice, Advisory functions, and exhaustive in Judiciary, executive and legislature.
- To train and impart legal research skills, including legal drafting and writing so as to enable the candidates to respond to various legal problems within National, Regional and International arena.
- To align the students with the academic and professional standards as stipulated by relevant academic and Professional bodies such as Uganda Law Council, Uganda Law Society, National Council for Higher Education as well as other stakeholders in the legal and social structures.

Admission Requirements
Pre-entry Requirements
- All applicants who apply for admission to the law programme have to undergo an Admission procedures as provided by the University.
- Detailed information on admission procedures, fees and requirements for each of the categories of admission can be obtained from the office of the Academic Registrar.
Direct Entry
To be eligible for admission to the Bachelor of Laws Degree Programme under the Direct Entry scheme, an applicant must have:
- The Uganda Certificate of Education (or equivalent) with at least five passes obtained at the same sitting.
- The Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education with at least two principal passes in any of the subjects done at A- Level obtained at the same sitting.
Diploma Holders Entry
To be eligible for admission under the diploma holders` entry scheme, an applicant must have at least a Second Class Diploma in Law from a recognized Institution.
Degree Holders Entry
To be eligible for admission under the degree holders` scheme, an applicant must have a degree from a recognised Institution.
Mature Age Entry
Mature age applicants, who must have sat for and passed the National Aptitude Test and the subject-based Mature Age Entry examinations, shall be considered for admission into the programme.
International Applicants
Foreign students from within the region and beyond are also considered for admission if they have equivalent qualifications. International applicants must have qualifications that are recognized for university entry in their respective countries. And in case their qualifications are in conflict qualification arrangement of Uganda, then such candidate(s) should seek for some clarifications from NCHE.
Program Duration
The programme will take four (4) academic years. Each academic year consists of two semesters. A semester lasts 17 weeks, whereas two weeks of a semester will be reserved for final written examinations while the 15 weeks will be for teaching.
