Programme Objectives

The Certificate in Project Management, Monitoring and Evaluation is aimed at primarily UTAMU undergraduate students. The course aims at providing participants with knowledge and skills necessary for effective performance in the role of Project Manager, and Monitoring and Evaluation practitioners. The course will provide the participants with knowledge and skills that will enable them to:

  1. Conceptualize, perceive, start and develop projects in a changing global environment
  2. Understand analytical tools, principles and concepts of project identification, appraisal, implementation and review
  3. Equip participants with skills necessary to identify the needs of a particular area and to develop projects to meet those needs
  4. Provide sufficient knowledge, skills, competencies and behavior attitudes that can enable to implement projects effectively and effectively
  5. Provide skills and knowledge in monitoring and evaluating the performance and impact of projects.
  6. Impart  up to    date    knowledge, skills    and    competencies    on    evaluation    of projects, policies and programmes for efficient delivery of expected results
  7. Produce evaluation experts with management skills and competencies in making critical decisions that affect delivery of services at all levels of society
  8. Equip participants with knowledge to be able to do evaluation consultancy assignments for projects
Learning Outcomes

On completion of the Certificate in Project Management, Motorizing an Evaluation, the participants will be able to:

  1. apply project management theory and practices to specific professional field(s) of expertise
  2. Initiate, plan, execute, control, evaluate and close out projects in a way that assures the delivery of the negotiated scope and quality level, while meeting time and budget constraints.
  3. Effectively communicate the project/programme status, issues, expectations and risks, both verbally and in writing, to project and programme stakeholders.
  4. Demonstrate how projects contribute to an organization’s ability to realize its strategic goals and business benefits.
  5. Exercise management and leadership skills in the conduct of programmes and projects of various size, scope, and complexity.
  6. Be an effective member of interdisciplinary project teams
  7. Assume the role of project manager from inception to commissioning
  8. Prepare project plans to meet project objectives and requirements
  9. Develop documentation to achieve project objectives within time, cost and quality
  10. Use appropriate management tools for monitoring and control of projects
  11. Conduct project management as a business
  12. Manage the utilization of project evaluations for effective decision making
Admission Requirements

Applicants for the Certificate in Project Management, Monitoring and Evaluation should have a minimum qualification of Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) or its equivalent.
