This programme aims at providing students with knowledge and skills necessary for effective performance in the role of Business Manager. It adopts a generic approach to business administration and is designed for students with interests in business administration projects, business development, community services, trade, tourism and agricultural businesses.
Career Prospects
This course provides the most appropriate way of management of businesses for the new generation of managers who are asked to handle multi-disciplinary projects in a rapidly changing business environment. It is specifically designed for students who may have not have progressed directly to the university for one reason or the other, Management staff who are currently undertaking development works or running business projects or working in businesses within their normal roles and responsibilities.
Programme Objectives
The programme is intended to introduce the students to business administration principles; equip students with relevant knowledge and skills in business operation and management; provide students with knowledge and skills in book-keeping and financial reporting; enable the students generate business ideas that will enable them exploit the available resources for self-reliance. The programme aims at providing participants with knowledge and skills necessary for effective performance in the role of Business Manager. It adopts a generic approach to business administration and is designed for students with interests in business administration projects, business development, community services, trade, tourism and agricultural businesses.
Learning Outcomes
The Diploma in Business Administration is aimed at primarily the students who may have not have progressed directly to the university for one reason or the other, Management staff who are currently undertaking development works or running business projects or working in businesses within their normal roles and responsibilities.
Upon successful completion of the programme, students are expected to:
- Demonstrate knowledge on how to assess business opportunities and an in-depth understanding of what typically characterize successes and failures.
- Identify key processes necessary to bring new products and services to market and key challenges facing the entrepreneur at different stages of the entrepreneurial voyage.
- Assess the commercial viability of new technologies, business opportunities and existing companies.
- Apply the business knowledge and skills acquired to serve organizations and communities professionally exhibiting remarkable competencies relevant to today’s business world, and of high standard.
- Develop and recommend viable business-management decisions through rightful and suitable connections with political, social, economic, legal, ethical, technological and environmental factors.
- Identify management and organizational problems, isolate critical factors, generate feasible alternatives and, after critical thinking and analysis, come up with the most appropriate and ethical solutions.
- Use acquired technological knowledge and skills to effectively and efficiently manage and administer business entities for desirable results.
Admission Requirements
Direct Entry Scheme
- To qualify for direct entry, the candidate must have at least one principal pass and two subsidiary passes attained at the same sitting of Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) or its equivalent.
- The Candidate must as well have at least 5 passes in the same sitting of Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or its equivalent.
Certificate Entry Scheme
- The candidate must have a Certificate (Equivalent to Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education) in any course from a recognized institution.
- The Candidate must have at least 3 passes in the same sitting of Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or its equivalent.
Program Duration
The program will extend over a period of two academic years. An academic year shall consist of two semesters and one recess term. A semester shall consist of 15 weeks of lectures. A recess term shall consist of 10 weeks.
