This programme is intended to produce human resource professionals with the ability to lead people, lead business, and lead change by transforming human capital into opportunities.
Career Prospects
Taught by leading practitioners in the HR industry, this curriculum explores the principles of human resource management in a global economy, quantitative modeling and business strategy. It equips graduates with the skills to identify, analyze and solve complex human resource and management issues for organizations. It covers areas of human resource policy, human resource development and industrial relations.
Programme Objectives
Uganda Technology and Management University (UTAMU) has positioned itself as a high-quality education and research institution in technology and Management (T&M) in the region. The Vision of the University is “To be a global educational institution for management, science, technology and innovation” and its Mission is “to provide global quality education, research and innovation critical to economic and human development’. Human resource management education is indeed one area critical for Uganda’s development. The PGD in Human Resources Management is designed to provide knowledge of human resource management and development from an interdisciplinary context to produce graduates who aspire to direct the staff of public, private and not-for profit organizations. It aims to provide the instruments for appropriate management of human capital that can meet the requirements of the current market and, at the same time, enhance the managed resources. This programme offers the opportunity to acquire in-depth comprehension of the most important factors that influence the behavior of people in organizations in order to create new generations of well-rounded and skillful professionals, especially in the field of individual and group motivation management, evaluation and development of human resources, remuneration policies management, incentive systems management, participatory tools management, and business cooperation and communication, for both the public and private sector.
Learning Outcomes
By end of the programme, students will be able to:-
- Identify the trends affecting Human Resource Management
- Analyze human resource activities
- Outline how the strategic human resource planning process is utilized to meet employee and company goals
- Write a job description and the job specifications for it based on a job analysis
- Describe monetary and non-monetary compensation plans
- Justify the need for training and development
- Summarize basic previsions of legislation affecting Human Resource Management
- Research a selected topic in Human Resource Management
Admission Requirements
The admission requirements comprise any of the following:
- A Bachelor’s degree in any field or its equivalent from a recognized institution;
OR
- A professional qualification equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized professional body.
Program Duration
The program will extend over a period of one academic year. An academic year shall consist of two semesters and one recess term. A semester shall consist of 15 weeks of lectures. A recess term shall consist of 10 weeks.
