The PGD in Information Technology is aimed at equipping students with necessary skills through engaging them in rigorous intellectual analysis, critique and problem solving using a variety of teaching and learning techniques.

This PGD-IT prepares graduates for high-level careers in business technology. Graduates of such programs might go on to lead projects, departments, or entire organizations. Career roles include:
- Project Manager (plan, budget and oversee information technology projects)
- Information Technology Manager (director overseeing the computing assets of businesses, managing personnel, such as programmers and developers)
- Chief Technology Officer (responsible for technical planning within an organization, identify and evaluate the best computing solutions for their companies' needs)
- Chief Information Officer (overall strategic planning, plan administrative processes, keeping the organisation through the effective applications of technology)
- Architect (Designs complex IT systems to meet business needs, integrating Systems hardware, software, and networking components)
- Cybersecurity Analyst (Protects an organization’s information systems from cyber threats and attacks by implementing security measures and responding to incidents).
- IT Consultant ( Advises businesses on how to best use technology to meet their goals, often focusing on system improvements and cost reduction).
- Business Analyst (Bridges the gap between IT and business operations, analyzing requirements and recommending technology solutions to improve processes).
- Cloud Solutions Architect (Designs and manages cloud infrastructure, helping organizations migrate to cloud environments and optimize their cloud services)

Programme Objectives
The broad goal of the PGD-IT programme is to provide content and competencies that support students’ professional development in IT. The objectives are to enable the students to:
- Write academic and scientific publications
- Develop the analytical tools for decision making in an IT dynamic world of complex business processes and problems
- Advance the development of skills in information technology that promote the use of internationally accepted professional standards of competence
- Develop theoretical, cognitive and contemporary skills of analysis, critical thinking, synthesis, innovation and evaluation in relation to the Information Technology (IT) sector
- Build IT human resource capacity in both the public and private sectors, especially in universities
- Prepare students to participate in managing IT projects
- Address the increasing demand for IT training at Master’s degree level
- Strengthen capacity and institutional building in the IT discipline in tertiary institutions, private and public sectors

The graduate of Postgraduate Diploma in Information Technology shall be able to:

Admission Requirements
To qualify for admission a candidate must fulfill the general Uganda Technology And Management University entry requirements for a PGD IT, and in addition a candidate must be a holder of a Bachelor’s degree in any field or its equivalent from a recognized Institution.
Program Duration
The program will extend over a period of one academic year. An academic year shall consist of two semesters and one recess term. A semester shall consist of 15 weeks of lectures. A recess term shall consist of 10 weeks.
