Programme Objectives
The Oil and Gas sector requires management professionals who have a good knowledge of management with an understanding of the important economic, political and social factors affecting the management of the resource within the context of a democracy. The curriculum carefully provides a balance between theory and real-life scenarios in the expansive oil and gas sector.
The course is designed to:
- Develop self-confidence and the ability to present efficient, logical answers to complex governance and management problems facing the oil and gas industry within the context of increased global pressures.
- Develop not only skills in strategic management application but sophisticated business innovation analysis capacities.
- Offer its students a sound knowledge of oil and gas governance, management and effective administration as well as an appreciation of its significance to social, political, economic, cultural and technological respects to national and international strategy and the ability to apply this knowledge to inform decision-making for the benefit of all citizens.
- Enable students develop a sound understanding of the business, management and leadership skills necessary to function effectively at a senior level as a contemporary in the Energy sector.
- Develop a thorough understanding of technical challenges facing the energy sector and a thorough grounding in the technical language of the industry associated with the Energy sector.
Learning Outcomes
By end of the course, students will be able to:-
- Apply knowledge of conventional business administration subjects such as general accounting, economics, management, marketing, business law and finance etc. to oil and gas sector.
- Manage both the upstream and downstream activities in the oil and gas sector.
- Demonstrate the application of key management and administrative competences for the oil and gas sector within the context of today's changing environment.
- Demonstrate skills of selecting organization-wide strategies that will increase their effectiveness as functional managers and strategic thinkers for the nascent oil and gas sector in Uganda and the region.
- Exhibit skills required on negotiation, operations management, oil & gas accounting and project management for the energy sector.
- Display knowledge and understanding in the area of law relating to oil & gas, environment and the law of the seas.
- Manage one’s own learning and development, including time management and organizational skills in order to plan and implement a major independent project.
Admission Requirements
The admission requirements comprise any of the following:
- A Bachelor’s degree in any field or its equivalent from a recognized institution;
OR
- A professional qualification equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized professional body.
Program Duration
The program will extend over a period of one academic year. An academic year shall consist of two semesters and one recess term. A semester shall consist of 15 weeks of lectures. A recess term shall consist of 10 weeks.
