Dr. Kassim Kalinaki

Dr. Kassim Kalinaki (Member, IEEE) is a computer science researcher, technologist, and educator with over a decade of experience bridging academic research and industry expertise. He’s currently a senior lecturer and the Dean of the School of Technology, Computing and Engineering at Uganda Technology and Management University (UTAMU). He holds a Diploma in Computer Engineering from Kyambogo University, a Diploma in IT (with technical education), as well as BSc and MSc degrees in Computer Science and Engineering (with Technical Education) from the Islamic University of Technology, Bangladesh. He earned his PhD in Computer Science from the School of Digital Science, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD). In addition to his academic qualifications, Dr. Kalinaki holds several industry-recognized certifications in cybersecurity and Big Data Analytics, further solidifying his reputation as a trusted advisor to organizations striving for digital transformation and resilience.
For more than 10 years, Dr. Kalinaki has lectured at the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU), where he recently served as Head of the Computer Science Department from 2019 to 2022. Additionally, he has worked as a cybersecurity project manager for SPI-Brunei (hybrid) from September 2024 to November 2025. Passionate about mentorship and knowledge-sharing, he is committed to shaping future-ready talent and fostering technological innovations that help build a secure, intelligent, and sustainable digital world.
His research areas include: Ecological Informatics, Healthcare Informatics, Data Analytics, Computer Vision, Machine Learning (ML), Deep Learning (DL), Digital Image Processing, Cybersecurity, Internet of Things (IoT), Remote Sensing, and Educational Technologies. He has authored and co-authored over 60 peer-reviewed articles published by leading publishers, including Springer, Elsevier, Taylor & Francis, IGI Global, Emerald, Wiley, IEEE, and MDPI, advancing state-of-the-art research and innovation. He also serves as a reviewer for numerous international journals, contributing to the quality and integrity of scholarly output in his fields.
