Uganda Technology and Management University (UTAMU) students emerged winners of the online Uganda National Cybersecurity CTF competition.
Peter Elolu, Simon Ocen, Hillary Magero and Gregory Toskins are computer security and forensics students in the UTAMU School of Computing and Engineering (SCE).
“Congratulations. I am happy to see UTAMU students already shinning in the field,” said Prof. Sadiq Yusuf, the Vice Chancellor of UTAMU. “This is proof of what UTAMU does best. We nurture scientists, technologists and innovators who transform and create solutions to our everyday society problems.”
The team of 4 emerged the first winner from Uganda and representing the country in the Arab and Africa Regional CTF competitions.
CyberTalents CTF competitions are cyber security competitions where participants demonstrate their technical ability in different cyber security fields.
According to CyberTalents, every team/individual who competes has access to a list of challenges in different categories like Reverse Engineering, Web Security, Digital Forensics, Network Security and others.
For every challenge solved, the team gets a certain amount of points depending on the difficulty of the challenge. The team with the highest score is crowned the winning team. Most of CyberTalents competitions provide cash prizes to winning teams.
