The Assistant librarian shall support the University library in delivering high quality information services for teaching, learning and research at the university.
The main responsibilities include:
- Provide reference and information services to students and staff.
- Provide cataloguing, classification and data entry services using international standards e.g MARC 21.
- Register library patrons and manage circulation desk.
- Assist in information literacy training for library users.
- Provide current awareness services and selective dissemination information services to the university community.
- Provide print preservation services and weeding outdated materials
- Enforce library rules and regulations
- Participate in organising academic support programs and library events.
- Promote library services through awareness campaigns and related activities.
- Ensure compliance with copyright and intellectual property laws.
Key Competencies
- Knowledge of Library Management Systems like Koha and familiarity with digital repositories.
- Knowledge of open access publishing.
- Competence in ICT applications, electronic cataloguing and digital resource management.
- Good communication and customer care skills.
Minimum Qualifications
He/She should hold a degree in Library and Information Science or a diploma in Library and Information Science from a recognised institution in Uganda.
