Uganda Technology and Management University (UTAMU) started the year 2022 with a breath of fresh air in academia as management ushered in new appointments that will take UTAMU to greater academic heights towards becoming the MIT of Africa. These highly qualified, experienced, knowledgeable and skilled academicians come in with a spirit of commitment and dedication that will be admirable and an inspiration to the student body.

Dr. Joseph Baleke Yiga Lubega
Joseph Baleke Yiga Lubega who joins UTAMU as the Dean of the UTAMU Business School and a senior Lecturer in the department of Accounting, Economics and Finance in the school. He is a member of the Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (CPA-Uganda), Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (CPA-Kenya). He holds BCOM (Accounting) degree and an MBA (Finance) from Makerere University. He holds a PhD in Business Administration from Mbarara University of Science and Technology and other certifications.
He has a wealth of experience of over 30 years in accounting, auditing, Finance and Management/Administration, Institutional/Enterprise Risk Management, internal controls in public and private sector, International Financial Reporting Standards. He is diversely qualified and experienced. He brings to UTAMU a great wealth of experience and knowledge.
Dr. Donald Mark Omong
Donald Mark Omong comes to UTAMU as the senior lecturer and Head of Department of Public Administration and Communications. He holds a PHD in Model Based Public Planning, Policy Design and Management (System Dynamic) from the university of Palermo, Masters of Public Policy with an Excellent Grade from the American University in Cairo, Masters of Business Administration in International Business from Amity University and a Bachelor of Social Science and Social Administration (First Class with Honours) from Uganda Christian University.
He is a Policy Analyst with over 10 years of experience complemented by a research background. He is a decisive and innovative leader who brings to UTAMU a spirit of leadership since we aim at creating leaders and not followers. He has registered admirable success in; Project Planning and Management, Public Administration, Public Management, Organization Learning, Public Policy Analysis, Strategic Planning, Organization Strategy, Collaborative Governance, Performance Management, Dynamic Performance Management, Systems Thinking and Systems Dynamics Modelling. He has participated and presented policy and research work to policy-makers and academia both national and international. With Dr. Donald Mark Omong, the sky is the limit for UTAMU.
Prof. Fred Paul Mark Jjunju
Professor Fred Paul Mark Jjunju joins UTAMU as the Dean in the School of Computing and Engineering. He is a professor of Computer Science at UTAMU and a Fellow of the UK higher Academy, active member of the Royal Society of Chemistry, the IEEE and IET with 10+ years’ experience of Software engineering, AI-IoT and chemical sensor design, instrumentation and application to environmental monitoring and personal hygiene; with a BSc in IT from Makerere University, MSc in Electrical Engineering (Analytical Instrumentation) from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology; PhD degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Liverpool. His research interests include; Software Engineering, Virtual/Immersive Reality, Artificial intelligence (Machine Learning and Deep learning theory); Data analytics and Big Data, Bioinformatics (Mass Spectrometry biomarker analysis), Internet of Things (IoT) and Cloud Computing (Google cloud, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure platforms), Cyber Security, Sensors and Actuators, and In-situ Mass Spectrometry for in field analysis.
He has diverse experience and skill as a Network Engineer at the Commonwealth Business Council in Uganda, Discovery Scholar King at the Abdullah University of Science and Technology, Jeddah Saudi Arabia, was a Visiting Scholar in the Department of Physical Science and Engineering at the University of Oxford, UK, Visiting Scholar in the Department of Chemistry Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, USA and Visiting Scholar, FOM Institute for Atomic and Molecular Physics, University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
Dr. Phillip Ouma Ayoo
Dr. Philip O. Ayoo is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer in the Department of Information Systems and Technology in the School of Computing and Engineering. He holds a PhD in Information Systems from Makerere University, MPhil in Information Sciences (Library and Information Studies) from Moi University, Kenya, BSc in Information Sciences (Information and Media Technology) from Moi University, Kenya.
He has worked as the Deputy Executive Director of the African Network for Internationalization of Education (ANIE), Eldoret, Kenya, the Principal Innovation and Outreach Officer and the Electronic Database Specialist at the Inter-University Council for East Africa, Kampala, Uganda among other contributions to the global community.
Professor JWF Muwanga-Zake
Professor JWF Muwanga-Zake is the Head of the Department of Information Systems and Technology in the School of Computing and Engineering. Prof. Zake is an educationist with vast global qualifications, experience and outreach. His experience is in the field of science, information systems, research, innovation and management. His is highly skilled in the sector of Higher Education in which he has lectured, trained lecturers; supervised postgraduates, mentored staff, held leadership and management positions. He has participated in systems design and development is one of the highly qualified and experienced ICT Systems specialists in Uganda.
Prof. Zake has over 40 publications and conference presentations. He has participated in editorial and review processes among which include Reviewer for Higher Education Research and Development, Reviewer for International Journal of Education and Development using Information and Communications Technology.
Dr. Okoche John Michael Maxel
Dr. Okoche John Michael Maxel was appointed to the position of Associate Professor. Associate Professor Michael Okoche is an academic with a passion in teaching, research, and consultancy in the field of Management and International Business with experience of undertaking studies with different organizations. He has published two books currently on sale in Amazon with journal articles in European Journal of Business, Journal of Public Administration. He has published 13 academic papers in refereed journals, 14 papers approved by different journals, supervised 44 students in different Universities in Uganda, Kenya, and India. He has spoken in different international conferences. He is a reviewer and editorial board member in different journals; Redfame, World Journal of Education, Higher Education Studies, and Public Administration Research and Journal of International Business in the USA. He has undertaken several evaluation consultancies in Kenya, Sudan, Darfur, South Sudan and Uganda.
As the UTAMU family, we welcome these appointments as we surely as “Black and White” believe that being the MIT of Africa will be realized in the near future!!!
